Devgad College is committed to the green campus philosophy and to saving the precious treasure of nature. Following on this path, our recent initiative to reuse the water in the campus is another feather in our cap. The Sewage Treatment Plant on the premises not only saves water but also helps to keep the campus healthy with clean air.
The STP consists of all process units which help to minimize the chemical and biological load of domestic sewage and can be reusedfor gardening and irrigation purpose.
Features of the Plant:
i. Odour less Treated Water.
ii. Suitable even if there is uneven supply of sewage.
iii. Overall Organic & Inorganic content reduction (BOD & COD).
iv. Less Sludge Production.
v. Low Operating Cost.
vi. Environmentally Safe to treated sewage water dispose in Land or in municipal sewerage.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:
Domestic sewage generated from the campus complex is passed through the screening chambers [coarse and fine screen] and then collected in the Collection tank. Mixing arrangement is provided by using air in the collection tank to avoid any settlement in the tank.
From the collection tank sewage is pumped by Submersible non clog type pumps to MBBR for degradation of the organic matters in the form of BOD. MBBR media acts as a substratum for Microbes for degradation or decomposition of organic matter using attached growth technology.
From Collection tank sewage is continuously fed to MBBR. MBBR works on the attached Suspended Biological growth principle. To maintain the aerobic condition in the reactors, continuous air supply is provided by means of Twin lobe type Air Blowers.
Gravity overflow from the MBBR tank is collected in the Tube Settler. In this settling tank, sludge generated from the Bioreactor undergoes a gravity settling and is further recirculated in the Aeration tank as a standby arrangement for maintaining MLSS ratio. Clear supernatant from settling tank flows by gravity to a Filter Feed tank. Alum is dosed in Filter feed tank for removal of Turbidity & Suspended organic particles which were not trapped in the settling tank.

Tertiary treatment:
From Filter feed tank the treated water is further polished in the Sand media filters followed by activated carbon filter for removal of Colour, suspended solids and Odour. In this process the Hypochlorite and UV treatment is used for disinfection.
Recycling Potential : Filter water then collected in the tank constructed for the purpose and it is used for Gardening or Toilet flushing.
Sludge Storage and Drying : Sludge Storage and drying is provided. The excess sludge from Aeration and Settling tank is collected by gravity to Sludge Drying beds for further degradation into organic manure which can be used for gardening purpose.
