National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme (NSS) under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India is a part of students’ development agenda in our institute.

Programme officer: Mr. Sanjay B. Tayade
Programme officer: Mr. Nileshkumar M. Wankhade
Assistant Programme Officer: Miss. Y. S. Kandalgaonkar
Assistant Programme Officer:Miss. Shamali S. Tari

The central theme of NSS is that students should always keep before them, their social responsibility. The University Grants Commission headed by Dr. Radhakrishnan recommended introduction of national service in the academic institutions on a voluntary basis with a view to developing healthy contacts between the students and teachers on the one hand and establishing a constructive linkage between the campus and the community on the other hand.

Motto of NSS: Not Me But You
The Motto of NSS “Not Me But You”, reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students develop appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration to ‘/other living beings.
The NSS students of our institute keep up the useful work in organizing campaigns for awareness on social issues, popularization of the nationally accepted objectives like nationalism, democracy, secularism, social harmony, development of scientific temper, Swachchha Bharat Abhiyan etc.

A number of extension activities to inculcate the mind-set to serve the society among students during their receptive age are conducted through NSS. The institute is bound to respond to nation’s calls through extension activities such as Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan, Sustainable Development, Make in India etc.
• Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan: Plastic free clean campus campaigns
The college NSS unit plans and executes various activities related to Swaccha Bharat Abhiyan, Tree plantation and conservation etc.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Independence Day and Republic Day, the NSS volunteers take up the tasks of cleaning the college campus and making it plastic free.
The college students are appealed to avoid usage of plastic and not to litter plastic, wrappers on and around the campus.
• Tree Plantation and conservation:
Generally, as a practice, during the first/second week of July, a campaign for plantation and up keeping of trees and mangroves is arranged on the campus and in the nearby places. The Environment Science Department faculty helps in choosing plant species and guides on the ways of conservation of conservation of the saplings.
Also, remains after pruning of trees, fallen leaves, the mowed grass etc. is fed in the compost pits and the pits are maintained by NSS volunteers on regular basis. The generated compost is used as manure to the plants.

Also, voter enrollment campaigns are conducted.
• World population day:
World Population Day focuses attention on the necessity and consequences of population issues. Various issues such as changing demographics, polluting environment, depleting natural resources, health in connection with exploding population are paid attention to through display of posters, experts guidance etc.
Also, the themes ‘Family Planning is a Human Right’ etc. announced by the United Nations are followed.
• Andhshraddha Nirmulan:
Time is demanding need of open and rational thinking. NSS unit and Social Sciences Departments organize yearly programs on Blind faith Eradication in association with Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti (MANS).
Though, Maharashtra has a long inheritance of rationalist social reformers, time is urging to create awareness towards blind faiths, exploitation of children and women in the name of rituals, misleading the masses etc.
The scientific attitude is one of the responsibilities of every Indian and has included it as a value to be inculcated through education.
